 MK-Ultra

Ah, the wonderful pharmaceutical industry...During World War II, the Nazis used hallucinogenic drugs in various mind control experiments.  When key Nazis were advising the US intelligence services after the war (see Project Paperclip) it inspired certain figures in the CIA to continue the research.  After a few years of testing "LSD-25" (lysergic acid diethylamide) was settled on as the acid of choice.  LSD had been developed by researchers at Sandoz Pharmaceutic, and quickly became the backbone of the "MK-Ultra Project."

From 1955 to 1958, the CIA dosed approximately 1000 unsuspecting people with LSD to see what would happen.  This is a proven fact and came to light in the 1970's during Senate hearings on suspected CIA abuses.  All of this was discovered despite the fact that MK-Ultra mastermind Richard Helms had already ordered the shredding of all MK-Ultra and LSD documents due to a "burgeoning paper problem."  If the Senate (which is hardly the world's most efficient investigatory body) found out about this from the documents that somehow survived, it makes you wonder what was in the documents that were shredded.

But getting back to MK-Ultra in its heyday in the early 1950's...

In 1953 the CIA ordered 30 million doses of LSD from Sandoz Pharmaceutic.  Sandoz refused to fill the order and the Eli Lilly Company was given the contract instead.  They promised the CIA shipments of "tonnage" quantities.  One ton of LSD would be enough for 2.5 billion doses.

In the 1960's, even though the CIA claims to have ended the MK-Ultra project in the late 50's, LSD was being manufactured in underground labs in San Francisco, with the covert assistance of the CIA.  The plan there was get the anti-war protesters to "tune out" on LSD and stop their pesky peace marches and demonstrations.

But that's not the end of the story.  The "acid-trip" aspect of LSD was just a tangent.  The real purpose behind the whole MK-Ultra idea was mind control.  Sirhan Sirhan, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinkley, and Mark David Chapman are all suspected of being under some type of mind control during their respective assassinations, assassination involvement, or assassination attempts.  The whole Jonestown cult in Guyana is believed to have been an offshoot of the MK-Ultra project; a massive mind control experiment which was in danger of being exposed and had to be violently shut down.  Despite what you may have read, there wasn't any poison Kool-Aid in Jonestown.
